Bill Gates promised MS Antispyware remains free. This was on a italian website few days ago. 
I believe that is correct, MS is to have it as a free product after the beta trial.
Watch out for the squeals from the paid for anti-spyware companies, I feel another anti-trust monopoly fight coming on ;D
