microsoft antispyware

Hi all!! just a query, can you run Microsoft antispyware, Ad-aware SE and SpywareBlaster at the same time or is this too much and could cause me a problem…thanks… :-\

I use to have all three, but got rid of MS Antispyware cause I don’t really need it. They work well together, no doubth about it.

Wow that was quick…lol, well in that case I won’t bother with it then…thanks…

If you feel you need it, go ahead, no problem. Yep that was fast. ;D

I run all of these at the same time. MS AntiSpyware for on-access protection, SpywareBlaster for preventing spyware and AdAware and Spybot for on-demand scanning.

Microsoft AntiSpyware is the only anti-spyware program to offer free real-time protection, comprehensively locking down a computer. The only free alternative is Winpatrol. Anybody not paying for an anti-spyware program with real-time protection (e.g. Spy Sweeper) should have MS AntiSpyware.

The latest tests suggest that even the best anti-spyware programs only find 80% of spyware, so the best approach is to use two or three scanners, scanning with each when definitions are updated.

I use all the free scanners occasionally:

Ad-Aware
Spybot Search & Destroy
Microsoft Anti-Spyware
Yahoo! Anti-Spy (From Pest Patrol)
X-Cleaner Free
A Squared (Trojan scanner but also finds spyware)
Ewido (Trojan scanner but also finds spyware)

It’s important to use only one real-time protection program: from the above list, only MS Anti-Spyware has comprehensive real-time protection. (Spybot has a few lock-down features if you activate ‘Tea Time’.)

ANYBODY USING AVAST! HOME SHOULD USE MS ANTI-SPYWARE BECAUSE AVAST! HOME DOES NOT BLOCK SCRIPT VIRUSES AND MS ANTI-SPYWARE HAS A SCRIPT BLOCKER. (If you’re not already using a script blocker such as that from Analogue-X , of course.)

Isn’t Teatimer from SpyBot a real-time protection?

Yeah, Technical you’re right! Also SpywareBlaster (in a different mode) offer something
like it.

Isn't Teatimer from SpyBot a real-time protection?

I believe that’s what I said. Just not as comprehensive as MS Anti-Spyware.

Tea-Timer blocks malware processes and critical registry changes. MS Anti-spyware does that and has 57 other “checkpoints” blocking nefarious activity. It even stops your cat crapping behind the sofa.

I have SpyBlaster and Spybot. I just installed the MS Anti Spy, but disabled the TeaTimer on Spybot as suggested by Frank.

Didn't find one trace of any cats.

(Frank: I had intended to keep the renamed file in the Recycle Bin… Then when I did the Disk Clean Up with the TuneUp thing, it got deleted. Evidently it doesn’t make a backup of the recycle bin. Live and Learn. :frowning: But as you said it probably won’t matter…maybe…perhaps… :-\

Forgot about WinPatrol have that also running all the time would that conflict with MS Anti Spyware?

No, Suszannah, WinPatrol don’t create any conflict: I have it on my pc with many others applications (see below my system’s details).

Thanks for that…you have just about the same as me, will be worth trying it then…

Wait, does Tea Timer acts like a script blocker? ???

Tea Timer is a sort of “system locker” against various threats. On help-menu of SpyBot all is clearly explained. Ciao!

Hmm so do I still need MS Antispyware? I just remove that program a few months ago.

You need some sort of script blocker, because Tea-Timer doesn’t block scripts (and avast! home doesn’t block script viruses from running.)

There are two script blockers available:

http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/programs.asp?Program=Script%20Sentry

http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/system/sdefend.htm

Microsoft Anti-Spyware also blocks scripts + 56 other things.

I don’t like to have more than on program on my computer doing the same thing at the same time as another, (anti-virus, firewall etc.) so I don’t have more than one program blocking system changes at the same time. MS Anti-Spyware seems to be the most comprehensive, so I use that.

I don’t know if MS Anti-Spyware conflicts with Tea-Timer and Winpatrol, but there is always the potential that they would if they are all trying to catch the same ball…

My security complectation is written below! ;D I had MS Antispyware, but I’ve uninstalled it. I prefer others than this one.

Oh okay, I’ll use Script Defender.

Does anybody know what will happen when the beta period expire?
Will Microsoft Antispyware expire? Will the final release will be a payed version or it will remain as freeware?
