since today my Microsoft Internet explorer is very very slow (several minutes to get a page !!), I have the lastest Avast Internet Security (2014.9.0.2006 virus def 131027-0);
What I have done :
De-install comletely Avast > my MS internet explorer works fine back !
Re-install Avast > MS internet is back very slow !
De-activate the avast plug-in in MS Explore > all works fine back !
De-activate IPv6 > this doesn’t solved the problem.
Just had this fault and I started the “without addons” version in accessories/tools and disabled all the add ons and then added them back one at a time. OUCH when I found that it was Avast WebRep.
So re-enabled all the others leaving WebRep disabled and hey presto IE10 starts in 2 seconds and runs OK.
if it’s has been reported “zillion” of times, why it’s not yet fixed ??? nice support … and secondly, this problems has only occured since today, Avast is installed on my system since a long time with no problem !
IE is slow from itself, I would not use it
As said, it can’t be the WebRep since it does not excist in avast 9 (2014).
IPV6 has nothing to do with speed in any way.
Just disable the IE add-on for now.
Do you notice any difference if you only disable DeepScreen scanning?
I had the same problem. Thought it was last nights storm, but then other things started crashing. A system restore completely wrecked Avast. It would not accept my license file.
I used Avastclear to remove the mess.
Then re-installed and all is now working
EXCEPT I wanted to remote to another users PC (he has AIS issues) and find that unless he has Premier (whatever that is) he cannot request Remote Assistance any more.

I have had the same problem with IE not responding or being extremely slow, we do need an update QUICKLY Avast, if nothing else an update that disables Avast Online Security in IE until there is a fix. I have had many customers with this problem.
Not a solution for those who only use IE. They won’t be able to find a solution because IE freezes on startup. Not everyone has two or more browsers. They should but they don’t.
Yes I get it. I’m talking about those that can’t look up a solution and have no idea why it stopped working. If an automatic update from Avast would fix it at least enough to get IE working that would be good. Doesn’t Avast have some emergency update feature?
@bob3160 : thanks for the link, that’s what I have done but I suggest to go thru “Control Panel/Internet Options” instead of coz at sometimes the internet browser (MS IE) is so slow and blocked than the option inside it is un-reachable.
But it’s a pity to buy an anti-virus/anti-spam… if it’s to disable some buggy functions :-[ ! waiting for a fix with impatience :
