Microsoft office question!

Is there any way of viewing microsoft office 2003 documents, spread sheets etc in office 2000? Without having to buy office 2003?

Hi. As far from what I know, you can use documents from office 2003 in ofice Xp and 2000. In case you couldn´t, when you save your document, use the option “save as Word 97-2003 & 6.0/95 RTF”
You can find that option just under the “name” field when you save a document.
Good Luck!

The following link should take care of your conversion problems:

Hi Omar,

I use Open Office, which is an open source freeware office suite http://www.openoffice.org/

I am currently using the beta version 2.0 RC, which seems to open all Microsoft Office Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. Only drawback is it is a very large file to download about 75 meg :o

Hope this is some use to you!

Cheers,

Thorny

Thanks for that but I have a problem. I am using XP home.

I have downloaded “microsoft access snapshot viewer”.

I need to view some microsoft access data base files, they are are saved on to a floppy disk. Ido not know what version of microsoft office they are but either way they will not view in my microsoft office 2000.

I have the floppy disk in my computer, i click on “open” in snap shot viewer and try opening the saved files on the floppy disk. I keep getting a error message-“an error occurred while opening a snap shot file”.

what am i doing wrong?

Have you been able to view these files on any other computer?
Maybe the files themselves are corrupt?

Hallo Omar,

Wait for a new format coming in now, promishing a complete revolution on the Internet bigger than we have seen before:
the open document format. Another Open Source triumph, read about the new standard to be:
http://www.masternewmedia.org/news/2005/05/10/open_document_format_brings_open.htm

greets,

polonus

it opens word documents ok, can`t seem to get it to open access files :frowning:

someone saved them for me, so I have not had the chance to see if they work on another computer!

Since the viewer from MS and Open Office can’t open these files, I’m more inclined to suspect the files themselves.
Either of the above programs should have opened the files.

snapshot viewer won`t even open microsoft word documents that are saved on my computer. These documents open up fine in office 2000 which is saved on my computer.

Hi Bob3160,

Well MS lost the cling to its monopoly on the document standard in Massachusetts, if it does not open up to the Open Document Format the State is phasing the MS Office Software out, so they better yield and adopt. This is gonna mean quite a revolution on the Internet if the Big MS cannot dictate everybody and everything. Read about the verdict here:

greets,

polonus

when i click on “open” to try and bring up a microsoft access file I get “ACS11 filter options”.

polonus
I’m talking about corrupt files. Nothing else. If the files Omar has on the disk are corrupt, even a court order will not open them. ;D

Hello Bob3160,

I do understand that. If apart from the format the files are corrupt, by whatever cause. Then they cannot be opened. The other remarks were just about a conversion problem the whole thread started with, and that is a question that has “broadened” up a bit now. I must admit I am not particularly unhappy with that development. Are you?

greets,

polonus

i am not sure if they are corrupt. I did a little experiment. I went into office 2000 (access) and created some data bases. i saved these into my documents on my computer.

I then tried to open them using

http://www.openoffice.org/

they wont open. It seems to me that this programme will open word and excel documents. but it wont open access files at all

I must admit I am not particularly unhappy with that development. Are you?
Broadening the topic isn't solving Omar's problem. ::)

Omar,

I am affraid that you are quite right, ufortunately it would appear that Open Office does not support MS Access files. Evidently it is well documented in their forums http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewforum.phtml?f=10 :frowning:

I am sorry I did not know this fact myself until I looking it up today, its not a something that I have experienced as I don’t have any Access files on my computer.

Hopefully you will be able to find a solution to your problem elsewhere soon!

Cheers,

Thorny
