Microsoft to Extend Service?

Found this article a while ago. Please go HERE to read about it.

To me that doesn’t read extend service, rather MS trying to sell their thin client

"Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs" software gives nearly-obsolete systems some of Windows XP's security technologies, notably Windows Firewall and Automatic Updates.

Something that you have to pay n annual subscription/fee.

Fundamentals is available only to customers of Microsoft's Software Assurance (SA) volume licensing program, which gives users update rights in return for annual payments over a two- or three-year period.

So I see this gesture as a money making scheme and not extending service/support for older OSes. But then I have always been suspicious of of these things where something is withdrawn only to have a paid for alternative pop-up.
