Mindware Mind Games Pro

BNB [PUP] reported. Please verify and explain, or correct.

As the developer of this app, I was distressed to find that Avast Mobile Security has again identified Mind Games Pro as potential malware. This comes on the day of a major promotion on Amazon, and I am unable to get any response from Avast. No other scanners identify malware in this app. Avast falsely identified Mind Games Pro (the Google Play version) a few weeks ago. When I recompiled the app (with no changes to code or libraries) and tested again, no problem was found.

The current version on Amazon has undergone a rigorous review process by our team and Amazon prior to this promotion (free app of the day). I would very much appreciate it if you could remove this app from being flagged or kindly provide proof that the app contains malware. I certainly have no desire to distribute any kind of malware and firmly believe this to be a false positive error.

The current APK for Mind Games Pro has been active on Amazon since 11/12/13, so there have been no recent changes to the app.

Kind regards,
Jack Cole, President

Hello, the PUP means potentially unwanted program, so it is not flagged as malware, more likely it means, that you are declaring some permissions in manifest, which could be unsafe for user. I tried to run scan with last virus definition update on mindware.mindgames package and no threat has been found. Please can you update the virus database and try it again? Thank you.

You have to download the version from the Amazon App Store, which is running as today’s free app of the day. The only code differences between this version and the one on Google Play are the version code and linkage to the app store for the user to provide ratings. The google play version also has an additional icon in the assets folder. There are no other differences.

Download the app store from: http://amazon.com/getappstore/

Then download Mind Games Pro, which is available as the free app of the day.

Run the scan with Avast mobile security. On the main screen in Avast it will show “Malware Found.” Then to resolve the issue it will uninstall the app!

Obviously this is resulting in a lot of negative feedback from angry users and hurting the reputation of the app. Mind Games is a major app with nearly 5 million downloads.

Please help me with this in any way that you can. I would greatly appreciate it. If there is someone I can call and talk to for resolving this more quickly, I would be very glad to call.

Best regards,
Jack

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I did retry this with the latest definitions and it still identifies the app as malware.

I can not see any problem from your APK from Amazon; are you sure, that Amazon services does not add any signature or strings to your app in process of submitting to amazon appstore? Can you please provide me the APK to svehlak@avast.com? Thanks.

Hi,
could you please tell us the name of the detection? Thanks

It is agent-bnb [pup].

Avast support has now fixed this problem. It is no longer being identified as potential malware. Thank you for your help in resolving this matter.

No problem, sorry for the troubles.
