Module is not initialized (internal program error)

Hi over the last week I’ve not been able to receive automatic updates & I’ve had the “Module is not initialized (internal program error” when I try to update manually. I’ve downloaded the latest beta version which is fine as long as I don’t reboot as this causes the problem to reappear. I’m also using the latest version of Outpost security suite 7 free. Both AVAST and Outpost seemed have coexisted harmoniously up to know. Help !!

You can enable debug logging in avast Settings\Maintenance and then post the correspondent log file
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\Log\Logging.log
or
C:\Users\All Users\Alwil Software\Avast5\log\Logging.log

Hi the file is very long, but starts like this:

Interesting. Are there any files called unpXXXX.mdmp in the LOG subfolder?

Thanks
Vlk

No can’t see any file’s like the one you describe

I have the same problem with the Paid version of Avast. It just will not update. What can I do?

Hello and welcome to the forum!

  • Which OS? (32/64 Bit - which SP)
  • Which avast-version? (Free, Pro, Internet Security)
  • Which program version (7.0.1456 is the latest)?
  • Other security related software installed?
  • Any error messages?

DJBone

OS: W7 Ultimate 32bit
Paid Version of Avast Internet Security
Version: 7.0.1456
No other Security Software
Error Message: “Module is not initialized (internal program error)”
Auto updates seem to work OK. But when you click on “Update engine and virus definitions” or “Update program” The error message comes up.

Thanks for your feedback.

You could try a repair of avast:

  1. Control Panel → Programs & Features → avast!
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

Tried the repair as suggested, but no change with Error Message.
Engine Auto Updated to: 120803-1 so I suppose there is not a lot to worry about another than the fact that it is annoying.
Thanks for your help.

Then you could try a clean install of avast:

1 Download latest stable version of avast IS: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
2 Uninstall avast.
3 http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (note the Windows Safe Mode detail).
4 Run aswclear several times, for each version / edition of avast ever installed or updated to in your system.
5 Install avast and restart after the installation finishes.
