Monthly Windows error, caused by Virus?

Hello,

I’ve been having a reoccurring problem with my system. About a month after I install Windows XP Service Pack 2, it would stop loading.

Error message = “load needed DLLs for Kernel”

According to Microsoft’s web site, the only solution is to reinstall.

I have been reinstalling every freakin month. Needless to say, this sucks.

Since it is reoccurring, can this possibly be something I have caught from surfing the web? Virus? Malware? Etc…

I have a legit copy of Windows. I have activated it everytime I reinstalled. And it has confirmed my ativation by saying you’re activated and so forth.

My system.

BioStar T-Force SLI
AMD 4400 Dual Core
XFX 7800GT
4G of corsairs @ dual channel config, the system is reading it as 2G (don’t know if this is normal)
Hayes external USB modem
SoundBlaster X-Fi
2 SATA hard disks
1 DVD drive
1 Floppy
Power Supply = 650W
Bios, graphic and chipset drivers are the most recent I can find.
Windows XP SP2
Firewall = Windows
Antivirus = Avast

Any ideas? Thanks.

Rod

By the way. This is about the 5th time that this error have caused me to reinstall.

Rod

Yeah, most probably your web habits could bring this problem…

Does the error message belongs to which application?

Does these links help?
http://www.smartcomputing.com/techsupport/detail.aspx?guid=&ErrorID=21429
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=164448
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;812450
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Thank you for the links, but I’ve already browsed through those sites. Unfortunately they just tell you to reinstall. That’s what I’m trying to avoid every month it seems.

What I need to know, is what is “causing” this file mismatched that is mentioned by Microsoft. Does this just happens on its own, or is some virus or malicious code is getting into my computer and causing this.

 Hi Setter32 :

If I were you, I would ask the Microsoft Most Valuable
  Professional(s) on the forums at www.aumha.net !?
Did you make sure you were malware-free BEFORE
  installing XP SP2 !?
P.S. On those forums, at the bottom of the "main" page
are several "SP2" forums that you may want to read
through to see if your problem is discussed !?

Thanks for the link. I will try it out.

Regarding making sure there was no malwares on my system. Each time before I installed Windows, I reformatted the whole hard disk. That would eliminate everything on that hard disk, or am I mistaken. Thanks for your input.

Hi Setter32,

Have a look here:

http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/

You will find a solution for all set-up problems there.

Ok this sounds like you have a Rootkit Virus and that is not easied to remove and i would ask that you look up the drive maker and get the low level format tools and run a low level format. This will reset the drives to the first day that you installed Windows also make sure you go to microsoft.com and order the critical updates on cd before you plug it in the network cable.
