My 2-Gigabyte C drive is overloaded already, and the unpack files created by AVAST in C:\Windows\Temp have caused an out of space condition several times. Even if the files are emptied after unpacking, the file itself requires 32 KBytes, and many files are left in place.
How can I move this work area to a different drive, where I have ample free space?
What is your Operating Syatem, 2GB is not much, windows XP uses 2.1GB, this doesn’t consider the program files folder, etc.
You probably need to do a disk clean-up, right click on the C:\ drive and select Properties, Disk Clean-up ad if you have More Options there may be other things you can clear.
I am running Win 98SE. That entry does not exist in my registry, although D:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ … is there, with 3 subfolders.
This computer has been used for several years, and originally came with the original Win98, which I upgraded to SE several years ago. Not knowing better, I started out installing everything by default on C: for the first year or so. Now, everything new goes on D:, but I can’t find all the original disks to rebuild, so I don’t want to start over. I have removed everything that I don’t use, moved my Email and cache files, and never keep data on C:.
Can the work area be moved by any parameter within AVAST? If not, I think it would be a useful addition.
It doesn’t matter that the value doesn’t exist there (it really doesn’t by default) - just create it.
Or, you may want to move the whole TEMP folder (i.e. not just for avast!, but rather for any program) by setting a different value of the TEMP environment variable in autoexec.bat.
