I regularly get a pop up saying “MsMpEng.exe is attempting to access your Mozilla Firefox cookies” I understand this is part of Windows Defender. Should it have been switched off by Avast? Does it have a legitimate reason to look at the cookies and is that a security threat?
Avast doesn’t disable Windows Defender when you install Avast. Windows should disable it when any third party antivirus is installed.
Check your Windows Security settings and check if it is disabled.
What browser are you using ?
Using Firefox as my main browser.
Real time protection is off as I am using another antivirus provider (i.e. Avast)
I’m at a bit of a loss, if it is off.

Firefox is my default browser and I’m not seeing this.
when you open protection centre have you checked the bottom box is unticked (click microsoft defender options)
as it says defender can do periodic checks even when using another antivirus.
if its on this maybe the cause.
if its off, like David i have no idea.
not found that setting but I have now switched off cloud scanning in Microsoft Defender settings to see if that makes a difference
Can you post the same screenshot with the “See details” part at the bottom included.
