Alright. I’m generally rather good with computers, but this is perplexing to the point of me actually sobbing and hitting the monitor.
I installed Avast…
Whereupon, I found that I had these viruses:
Win32:Trojan-gen.{VC}
Win32:Trojan-gen.{VB}
Win32:Trojan-gen.{UPX!}
Win32:Trojan-gen.{Other}
I tried and tried and tried to repair the files, but it always said something like:
“Program error… This file is in use”
So I’d exit all programs…
Still nothing…
So I deleted the files ((or so I thought)) and I was like… OK cool.
It worked that night…
Now, the next day, I cannot use Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player… My Computer search… OR EVEN AIM!
Basically everything else works…
I can’t understand what’s wrong!
What do I do to get rid of this?!?!
It says there was a program error…
I CANT EVEN USE AVAST!
It says that there is some sort of error, and that I should send a letter.
For AIM, it sayssomething about “ahascr.dll”
being the “MOD”
My computer was literally crawling with viruses, I think avast found about 20 of them, I dont have the names, but I do know I had sasser and a few variations of MSblaster.
Anyway, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, Windows File Search, and Kazaa Lite K++ arent working (avast and the virus cleaner work fine). The standard XP Error Report box comes up and under tech information it mentions ahascr.dll in all of them except for the file search, which just shuts down explorer, but I’m, pretty sure thats related.
I just did a full system scan 2 days ago and used the virus cleaner yesterday, so I really dont know whats up. I checked dll-files.com for ahascr.dll and it found nothing, asked a few of my freinds to search their system for it, and they didnt find anything. I’ll probably end up scanning the system again for viruses. Its just weird, I searched google for ahascr.dll and all that came up was this topic If this was caused by a virus wouldnt there be more mention of it?
ahascr.dll is a part of avast! - it’s the library used by the Script Blocker. Maybe the avast! installation got corrupted somehow?
You can try to repair avast! using the Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs / avast! Antivirus / Change / Repair - or even uninstall avast! and reinstall it again.
Thank you so much. Repairing didnt do anything for me, I just had to re-install it, but all those programs work fine now. I just wonder what started the problem, I’m not stupid enough to delete random dll files
