I’m totally new to Avast, so please forgive me if this sounds a little dumb.
I recently had to run Windows Task Manager to kill some software that was not behaving. It was there that I noticed that 5 occurrences of Avast Antivirus appeared to be running as well as other Avast services. I was not too concerned about the services, but more about the number of entries of “Avast Antivirus”. If this is normal, then my question is answered.

It’s about multi tasking, a process doing one thing is quicker than one doing multiple tasks.
A bit like your browser when you have multiple tabs open just check the task manager and see how many instances of your browser listed.
