I don’t know if I’ve messed up (I might just have) but I’ve had Avast free edition installed for4 some time (might even be more than the 60 days) and for a few days now, the icons representing them are gone from the taskbar.
I am still greeted with the email protection when I open my email and I just tried giving my computer a boot time scan and no viruses was found, so I asume I’m still - somewhat - protected.
I just don’t understand where the icons have gone.
I registered my avast today, but no change, I thought that maybe the registration would do the trick.
Can anyone explain why the icons are gone, and if it matters at all, and possibly how I can make them return?
I guess I could uninstall my avast and then reinstall it again, but would the icons then disappear again after some time?
I thank you in advance, and apologize if this has been asked elsewhere and I didn’t see it.
I would suggest that you try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
Well, there a number of threads that are about a false positive of Spy Sweeper, killing the avast icons (incorrectly identified as LopDotCom). A recent update of spy sweeper spyware signature file resolves the false positive so it doesn’t detect avast as lopdotcom.
It’s not a case of it being incompatible, but a false positive by spy sweeper and not checking what was being removed (the path to avast folder should have provided you with a clue), had you still had spy sweeper installed I may have been possible to restore the removal by spy sweeper.
Repair may not work in this case, if not you will have to uninstall, boot, install avast! that should restore the icons.
