Hi everybody …
My first virus with Avast Home, my first post (Please excuse my English for I’m a french frog eater !!!)
OS: XP 64
Avast first found : C:\System Volume Information_restore {2739919B_F01D-4B3C-939
Win32 : Trojan-gen {Other}
And there are two more in the chest !
Version VPS : 080114_0,14/01/2008
I sent it to the quarantaine zone. Then tried to “repair” → it didn’t work
Then downloaded “aswchr” → didn’t work as well.
I’m lost and don’t know what to do
Another problem (because of the virus ???) : Avast can’t scan certain archives because they are, it said, “protected by a password” and that I AM SURE is not true : I never use passwords for archives. What’s happening ?
I have reinstalled the whole system a week ago and am terrified at the idea of doing it again !!!
Just praying for your kind help
wait for the next VPS update, it’s maybe a false positive
If after updating your avast virus database the file is still set as infected, maybe you can disable System Restore on Windows ME, XP or Vista to delete the infected restore points.
But, most probably, it’s a false positive.
Don’t worry about the “password” protected archives. They are in all likelyhood, files belonging to another security program like spybot, superantispyware, etc. They “password” their files and quaratine folders to prevent them from being accessed. Check the log and you will be able to see which files are being reported as password protected.
