Hi.
For some reason the orange globe in my task bar is covered with little white specks.
Can someone please tell me why?
Thank you.

Hi,
Could please tell us your system configuration including your OS?
Also, if possible, please post a picture of the system tray icon.

Hello.
XP Pro Service Pack 2.
Recently, my only user profile corrupted due to a power company glitch. I managed to restore the profile and everything seemed normal. Then I noticed the dandruff on the globe. Honestly I’m not sure if the dandruff appeared immediately after I restored the profile.
Except for the dandruff Avast seems to be working normally.
Thanks for your interest.
May I ask why haven’t you install XP Service Pack 3 ???
I did have this problem at one point and a graphics driver update seemed to fix it for the time being, but as I type now…the low res icon is spinning in the tray…exactly like the OP…
Would be nice to fix this…
EDIT:poor image quality, courtesy of windows snipping tool ::)…all other icons are perfectly fine in resolution…
msmith1969, seems that your video/monitor drivers and/or resolution are small or inappropriate.
Can you post more info about your system specifications regarding to this?
Also, how much RAM do you have?
Looking at your other icons they don’t look too good either, see image and compare the avast and WinPatrol icons to yours.
I’m not sure if this might be down to the screen resolution ?
What happens when you display the tray icons and clock in the default windows format for XP pro as per my image ?
What are you using to display the tray icons and date/time it may well have an affect ?
Seems like spg SCOTT has a computer disease that needs to be fixed ???
Windows Vista or Windows 7 ???
I think that is partly due to using a gif image type, I normally use .gif but for something like this png or jpg would be closer to what you actually see on screen. As you can see in this .gif example it isn’t quite as clear but it still looks OK, but not quite as clear.
David is right…when you use the snipping tool and save as gif…it makes it kinda hard to show what I meant…
It is vista, but I am not on that machine now…seems a random thing…sometimes it works sometimes I get the funny icon…
David, just an off topic curiosity, which is your first icon on system tray (the green one)?
It is for my programmable wireless optical mouse software, Trust Wireless Laser Mouse (Carbon Edition).
Thanks. What does it do? A link for it?
It comes with the mouse, it is the software for it, customisable buttons, tracking speed, wheel scrolling left/right, etc. I don’t believe it is available as a stand alone, as presumably it wouldn’t work with other mice.
Thanks. I’ll pass it
Thanks to all who replied and offered help.
Yes indeed it is a resolution issue. I forgot that I changed the color quality from 32 bit to 16 bit. Therein lies the problem. Well, actually other than me being a rookie, there was no problem related to Avast.
Sorry to bother you guys.
Thanks again.
Hello,
No problem.
Good that you found the solution.

Geee David I hate Wireless Laser Mouse because you have to add batteries in the mouse hand control to operated the Wireless Mouse, I prefer usb mouse damn batterie crap mouse ;D
Like David (and many others), I also have a wireless laser 5 button scroll-wheel mouse.
I have had only 2 wireless mice in the past 12 years and will never go back to a wired mouse unless the wireless ones are no longer made. The current mouse I am using has been in use for 8 years and I use rechargeable batteries which last for more than a month on each charge. I also have a wireless keyboard (bought with the mouse) that works like a charm and battery life with it is also very good with the batteries lasting for 3 months or more.
It is hard to beat a good wireless mouse/keyboard.
[off-topic]Well I hate wired mice as the cable snags drive me bonkers and that happens many times a minute, much more of a hassle than changing batteries which on this mouse is over 6 months life. My last set got 7.5 months of use before changing. That is why I no longer use rechargeable as the duration isn’t as long, but even in CharleyO’s experience, even monthly is less hassle than a cable.[/off-topic]
