My PC auto restart during a Standard Scan

My internet connection is off.

I start a Standard Scan, half way thru the PC shut down and restart by itself - 3 times I tried and same happens

Pls advise what I should do

thanks

Did you already try this?

  1. Disable System Restore on Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];310405
  2. Clean your temporary files.
  3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast. Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning. Select for scanning archives. Boot.
  4. Use a-squared, ewido or Spyware Terminator (trojan removers).

thanks for the advise

Will try to do all the above and see how.

Let us know a little about your system, Operating System, CPU, RAM, etc.

Reboots like this are possibly associated with hardware (bad RAM or PSU) and or overheating (CPU, Video card or motherboard) and are notoriously difficult to identify the cause. The additional stress you are putting on your system during a scan could cause this to happen. There are also a couple of viruses that do this but they are very old and if your OS is up to date you are unlikely to be vulnerable to them, that and having avast that should be able to detect them.

A google search for http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=PC%20shut%20down%20and%20restart%20by%20itself returns many hits, this is just one http://www.askbobrankin.com/computer_restarts_itself.html
