my pc is slow with scanning

hi,

I used avast a few days now, it’s great software.
I have a problem, when I am scan my pc, my pc wil very and stop.
I am using windows xp pro.
Does anyone what I can do, so that my pc scans faster.
With other virusscanners I don’t have this problem.

Do you have an other on access Scanner runing while scanning with Avast?

And are you talking about on-access (i.e. resident) or on-demand (i.e. manually started) scanning?

I have uninstal norton before I instal avast.
I talk about manually scanning.
I have a ram saver 300-350 (62%), when I scan this go to 10-60.
My mouse is going very slow.

You should trsy disabling the “Ram-saver”, if that programm backup some parts of avast into the windows pagefile it is logical why Avast is slowing down your PC.

I wil try this and post here the results.

It don’t help.
He stop at the same file als yesterday a rar file.

Aha! You did not mentioned that it happens only on one file. How “big” is it? If it is small enough you could send it to Avast to check it.

He is slow during the scan, he wil slower how langer the scan but wil stop at that file, the file is 79 mb great.

sat,

rar have caused some problems for Avast.
You can try to “exclude” scanning of rar files to determine if that is the cause.

Open up the GUI (interface)…
Menu…
Settings…
Exclusions…
then click “add”. Enter *.rar and Okay

Try the scan again.
Regardless of result, go back over steps, but this time use Remove and take out *.rar

Once we know for sure that the rar file is causing problems, then you should provide the complete file name and size.

One of the Avast team might respond here and wish you to send it in for examination, but you can send it to support@asw.cz with an explanation. They might not respond as quickly as we here at the forum, but they need to know so they can determine if a fix is needed.

Good luck
Techie

Thanks
I try this and let you know the results.

Better yet, if you could expose the file on a server so that we could download it… Thanks.

Norton??? >:(
If you need some help to desinstall, let me know…
Do you really think you get rid from Norton? It’s the most difficult thing in the computer land
