need help desktop please!

okay I was on a website and the computer suddenly shut down> now I get this message saying: RUNDLL C:docume/alluse/applic… the specified module cannot be found.

also, there is nothing on my screen after it goes passed the welcome sign. like theres no icons or even the start button

no, I get the same error message in safe mode. there is nothing on my computer screen except the wallpaper. No icons, start button, time, etc.

Hi what version of windows are you running, is it 32 or 64bit
Also do you have access to a USB

thank you. yes there is usb ports. I think its 64 bit. it has a intel Pentium 4 processor 2.80ghz

well, I contacted dell support and they said it can be a bad hard drive. but they wouldn’t tell me how to back up data. So can someone help on how to back up data using a flash drive.

Download the following three programmes to your desktop :

  1. Rufus

For 64bit systems
2. Windows Vista 64bit RC
2. Windows 7 64bit RC
3. Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64

For 32bit systems
2. Windows Vista RC
2. Windows 7 RC
3. Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Insert the USB stick Then run Rufus

Select the ISO file on the desktop via the ISO icon.

Press Start Burn

Then copy FRST to the same USB

Insert the USB into the sick computer and start the computer. First ensuring that the system is set to boot from USB

When you reboot you will see this.
Click repair my computer

Select your operating system

Select Command prompt

At the command prompt type the following :

notepad and press Enter.
The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
Select “Computer” and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst64.exe and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

okay thank you very much for that info. um, I reinstalled windows xp. but now the system is weird. its lagging a lot. the cd was service pack 1. I having trouble upgrading it to service pack 3

oh boy, new problem. my computer only boots in safe mode. if I normally boot it, it goes to a black screen

[*] Download RogueKiller and save it on your desktop.

NOTE: If using IE8 or better Smartscreen Filter will need to be disabled

[*]Quit all programs
[*] Start RogueKiller.exe.
[*] Wait until Prescan has finished …

not really. it goes past the welcome screen. then its completely black

Could you reboot the computer and select the safe mode menu
On the menu is the option Enable VGA mode
Select that and let me know if it now boots

yeah it works in vga mode

OK what you need to do is update the video card driver, if that does not cure it then there is a problem with the card itself. What video card do you have
