as far as downloading MBAM and running a quick scan. The problem seemed to go away but has recently come back. I have followed the same procedure as far as downloading OTS and running the scan suggested on the same thread.
thanks for the advice and the welcome.
Last avast v4.8 (home edition) boot scan didnt find anything amiss. Malwarebytes anti-Malware also doesnt find anything.
Downloaded superantispyware which found 17 instances of tracking cookies.
Problems seemed to have stopped for just now but Im going on holiday so Ill post again a little over a week from now if Im having any further problems. Thanks again.
The problem is that the two occurrences of detections by the malware-gen signature aren’t necessarily related.
The avast Win32:Trojan-gen and Win32:Malware-gen are generic signatures (the -gen at the end of the malware name), so that is trying to catch multiple variants of the same type of malware and is a fine balance between detecting a new variant and detecting something valid as infected.
So without information on the actual detections (file name and location) there is little to compare the two. So I think the OTS log is somewhat premature, not to mention there aren’t that many on the forums that can analyse the content and advise any necessary actions.
You say, “Please help me get my computer back to normal.” to which I respond what is abnormal with your computer ?
If you have XP, Vista or Win7, I would advise downloading avast 5 and installing that.
