Hi Everyone,
I am not too experienced with computers, but I am trying to help my friend out with his computer. He seems to have gotten the vitro virus really bad. Basically he lost his OS and is now just looping. I know i could just reformat his computer and it should be good as new, but he has pictures on the HD that are irreplaceable. I was thinking of maybe encasing his laptop HD and connecting it to my computer to delete the virus and save the pictures but I dont know if the virus will transfer over to my laptop. I backed up my personal data on another external HD, so i am safe, I am just wondering if i run my laptop in safe mode and connect my friends HD to my laptop, will the virus be active or would avast be able to delete the virus because his HD will most likely still have some .exe files since it was running windows xp. Also i plan on saving his pictures by putting them on a cd. would it be possible for the virus to go on the cd if i just burn the pics/jpegs. I have read how sometimes even if you reformat the HD, the virus could still be there. Would you just do a normal reformat. I have a dell computer with a dell version of windows xp cd. would that be fine or do i really need the microsoft windows XP cd. Any help would be great. I plan on scanning the HD with Drwebcureit and avast. I also have already used the flash disinfector on my flash drive and external HD, is that good enough protection? Should i run flash disinfector on the infected HD as well?
