Neither Firefox nor Thunderbird will browse/receive mail due to Avast! Shields

I am having problems using both Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird to browse and receive mail…it seems that the Avast Shields are blocking access to some sites I visit (I can visit search engines but other things are blocked) and I can’t receive mail. I know I need to set up Thunderbird to change the encryption but don’t know how. Link me a post someone?

As to Firefox, I don’t know what to do.

OS: Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on MacBook Pro

I have presently the same problem. Since 6 September I cannot download mail with any mail program. I discovered I have to de-activate my AVAST mail shiled. But there must be better ways.

The issues will be most probably caused by broken IPv6 in your network. Try to disable IPv6 in the mailshield and webshield preferences, it should fix the issue.
