I’m trying to deploy Avast on all the Windows machines on our network. I’ve created a NetClient and a NetServer packages, and two kind of tasks: one that deploys directly on the target machine, and one that creates a .msi file. In case that matters, the ADNM server & console are on a Windows 2000 server machine (which is also the domain controller).
The credentials I’ve used in all packages/tasks are those of the domain admin.
I’ve tried a direct deployment of the NetClient on all the machines first, it worked for about half of them and failed on the others. They’re all a mix of Windows 2000, XPsp1 and XPsp2.
On the failed machines, the awsIScv.log is this:
11/09/05 13:26:27: InstSvc begin
11/09/05 13:26:27: avast! Remote Install Service
11/09/05 13:26:27: Setup CmdLine: “C:~AVINSTL\setup.exe” /forceinstall /createprogress /sfx /sfxstorage “C:~AVINSTL”
11/09/05 13:26:28: Setup exit code 1223
11/09/05 13:26:28: CopyFile C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\Setup.log C:~AVINSTL\Setup.log error 3
11/09/05 13:26:29: InstSvc end 0
I’ve also tried to install directly on the failed machines using the .msi packages and it’s kind of weird, I can see something running bun Avast doesn’t get installed, and in the Event Viewer I see two things happening: 1) install succeeded 2) uninstall succeeded. As if the .msi decided to uninstall right after the installation.
I haven’t managed to find something distinctive for the machines on which the install fails, I’m kind of stumped at this point.
Any suggestions?
Check Remote Install log in ADNM console, send it to my email or post a part containing log from computer where installation failed.
You can also try to install Network Client directly using setup downloaded here: http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setup_av_net.exe
add command-line parameter /client or /server.
Try it on one machine where remote installation failed
I tried to generate netclient deployment package, and when I click on Edit button, systems’s response was that he cannot edit server object. What means this? I have seen that in InstPkg folder have two zero byte sized files… and nothing another.
Could you please retry it, please? It might be that you were too fast - it actually gets a couple of minutes before the binaries get written to the database for the first time…
Yesterday morning I sent an e-mail to Mr. Mourek but can’t receive any answer. Maybe he’s very busy.
By the way, yesterday afternoon we are in big work (ADNM and me and I had uninstall and reinstall the whole system. Yes, now made mirrors approx. 25 min long my Avast Management folder is cca. 400MB.
But the deployment is problem, here’s the log:
In this case, I’ve generated a deployment pack (netclient edition) and built an deployment tas on client side. In this task I gave domain name “softek” (yes, we’re your reseller in Hungary) and no user name. In Computers section I’ve set only one machine to deploy, named “kerigep” and run. See the log.

Yes I have unchecked, but not works too. I tried on another machine, results is like this. I cannot obtain from command line, maybe I’m idiot… but not found the source of this problem.
IT WORKS!
I’m very happy now, but there are some “extra features” (see later). The problem solved when I’ve unchecked this idiot “Using simple file sharing” option AND REBOOT Windows! Then deployment was successfully. ;D ;D ;D
BUT: ???
After deployment I request reboot, but at restart Avast had the following error message: Missing license key.
When I started manually from Start menu, then Avast Managed Client run without problems. Now works the remote scanning, refreshing, it see the mirror server (when I want freshen manually, wrote correct IP adress of my ADNM server).
