netscape has trojan???

I recently installed Netscape browser 8.0.1.
During installation,Avast detected a Trojan horse in it.
Does netscape really contain a Trojan or is it just that netscape has codes very similar to a Trojan horse…

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner
Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. You can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.

If it is indeed a false positive, add it to the exclusions lists (Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced and Program Settings, Exclusions) and periodically check it (scan it in the chest), there should still be a copy in the chest even though you restored it to the original location. When it is no longer detected then you can also remove it from the Standard Shield and Program Settings, exclusions.
Also see (Mini Sticky) False Positives, how to report and what to do to exclude them until the problem is corrected.

Netscape comes bloated with 3rd party software. Use Firefox instead:

Netscape 8 is based on Firefox anyway.

Now let's see, what came first??? The chicken or the egg?

I think Netscape has been around almost forever. For sure long before Firefox
was ever even thought about. ;D

Ok, Netscape was first but the original Netscape is dead and the current Netscape is just a bloated modification of Firefox. The closest (current) thing to the old Netscape is SeaMonkey:

Your statement is the same as saying I inherited everything from my child ??? :o ??? You can't base something old like Netscape on something brand new like Firefox.

As Spock once said “It doesn’t compute”

Let’s just get to the facts. Netscape has been dead since 2003:

AOL just used the Firefox code for their new Netscape. You may say it’s just gecko, but the current gecko engine is not the same that was used 4 years ago.

Thanks David

I tried virustotal but netscape installer is 18 MB greater than the 10mb limit.

I see no reason for that… most probably it’s a false positive from avast.
By the way, can’t you resize your avatar to 100x100 pixels? Thanks.

I have resized my photo thanks to DAvid
