Hello,

I would like to know if there are antispyware for gateway computers ??
I would like to use to scan all incoming traffic for spyware and viruses (avast of course).

Welcome to the forum. There is no special anti spyware made just for a Gateway computer. As far as I know if you find an antispyware program it will work on most any different brand of computer.

Hi mouniernetwork,

Since you already have a broadband router, you don’t need to add any additional protection. Routers provide excellent protection and are less intrusive than software firewalls.

However, you can create a router and firewall on that leftover PC using a Linux distribution. It’s called SmoothWall, and it’s more capable than a router (probably more powerful than you need). It also takes a lot more work to set up.

There are also other packages you can use to turn an old PC into a Linux firewall distribution, like Coyote Personal Firewall for a Home Network environment.

But if you know your way around installing it on an old PC IPCop is the firewall of choice on an old PC. RCF firewall and get a copy of Firewall builder.

Enjoy, and turn that old PC into your bastion host firewall.

neal63, a gateway computer is two things:
A computer form the brand gateway and a computer acting like a firewall so before the router in a network. Welcome to the forum ;D ;D ;D ;D
