Network scan telling me to set profile to Untrusted when it's already set to Untrusted

So when I did a network scan with the Network type set as Unknown and the Firewall Profile set as Untrusted (which appears to just mean that my Windows network profile is Public and my device is undiscoverable), I get a No Problems Found result but am now getting this notice here

It’s telling me to use the Untrusted mode (which I already was using) even though it’s already set to Untrusted. Even when I manually switch it to Trusted and then back to Untrusted in the Avast UI and then run another scan I get this.

What’s weird is that when it was set to Unknown by default and I did a scan it would just show everything as green. It wasn’t until I manually switched it to Home and then back to Unknown that it started giving me that notice.

Does this just act as an ‘FYI’ or recommendation setting and if so is it meant to tell us to set it to Untrusted even if it’s already at Untrusted, or is that a glitch?

I’m not using Avast’s Firewall btw. I believe the Firewall Profile is merely meant to mirror what the Windows network profile setting is, but no one confirmed that in the other topic I started and then bumped recently.

You might also check your Network Shield settings as they work alongside the Firewall.

My Firewall Settings

My Network Scan Results

Like I said, I’m not using Avast’s firewall. This specifically has to do with the Network type and Firewall profile settings in the Network Inspector. “Firewall Profile” appears to just mirror what the Windows Network profile is (Public or Private).

These are my Network Shield Settings:

Now I don’t know if because you aren’t using the Avast Firewall - I don’t know if the Untrusted status would apply to what ever you are using.

Again, I believe the ‘Untrusted’ Firewall profile just means that your Network profile setting in Windows is set to ‘Public’. When it’s set to “Trusted” in Avast then in your Windows network profile it will say “Private.” At least that’s what I have noticed when I change between Trusted/Untrusted in Avast or Public/Private in Windows.

I do have a couple of questions for you, if you don’t mind:

  1. Did you set your Network class to “Home” yourself, or did it default to that?
  2. If you change your Network class to “Unknown” and then do a scan, do you get the same screen I do?
  1. I honestly can’t recall, its been a very long time since I did this - however I did do a short stint using just the windows firewall (you don’t say what firewall you are using) and I didn’t have any problems.

  2. Changing it to Unknown and then scanning does result in the Network needs attention. What if you set the Network to Home if that is what it is a Home network.

  1. I am indeed using the Windows Firewall.

  2. It is a home network, so I could set it to Home. When I do that, even on Untrusted status, I get an all good result

But the main reason I was curious is that before when I would scan it with the Unknown and Untrusted combination, I wouldn’t get ‘Attention’ indicator. I would get a complete good result.

I was curious if it was because that wasn’t a result of me making any changes beforehand and if Avast just kept things in sort of a default assumption that you were using a “good” network, like a home one or it would use indicators and basically guess.

I disconnected my ethernet and connected wirelessly , and when I went to the Network Inspector, the Network Class was set to Unknown and and Firewall Profile as Untrusted already. I did a scan, got the three green results, and when I went back to the Network Inspector area, the Network class was now on Home, so now it’s on Home/Untrusted, respectively. I closed and re-opened Avast and saw that it was back to Unknown/Untrusted. Scanned again, got the good results, went back, it’s back on Home/Untrusted. And it would follow this routine every time.

So then I manually changed it to Home, then manually changed it back to Unknown, scanned, and that’s when I got the ‘Attention’ indicator.

So it looks like before you make any adjustments yourselves, Avast is cool with it but it’ll show as Home after a scan and then as Unknown again the next time you open the UI. Once you make an adjustment, it reacts ‘accordingly’

I would still really appreciate someone from Avast chiming in here.
