Network Shield blocking Yahoo Messenger file transfer

Hi guys

I have had a problem for about 6 months. I got sick of it a few days ago and decided to deeper into this problem.

The problem: I am unable to send and receive files through Yahoo Messenger. When I receive files, for example an HTML file, the file when opened in the browser contains “Request Error” and not what the file should be about. If I receive a text file, I see HTML code - again declaring a “Request Error”. If they’re images - it’s corrupt.

Today I have eliminated the cause and Avast Network Shield is causing this problem. I disabled it and starting receiving files.

Anyone have any idea on how to fix or exclude Yahoo Messenger file transfer from Network Shield?

I’ve tried disabling IM Shield… no luck.

Thanks

I don’t know any other users of Yahoo messenger. However I am a Yahoo user too. If you would care to work with me to try to isolate this problem and any avast involvement I will be happy to discuss the testing scenario with you and with luck determine the cause.

Disclaimer: I am not a member of the avast team and have no involvement with the Alwil Software organization.

Hi - I would be very willing to work with you. Let me list the things I’ve done:

  1. Tried to get a friend to send me a file, failed.
  2. Stopped Avast Protection - file transfer passed.
  3. Started Avast Protection - failed.
  4. Uninstalled Avast - passed.
  5. Installed Avast (Clean install) - failed.
  6. Removed Yahoo from IM Shield - failed.
  7. Rebooted system, started Yahoo, tested file transfer from friend again. Failed. (Checked other resident shields, found last activity in Network Shield.
  8. Disabled Network Shield - file transfer passed.

Would you like me to add you to Yahoo?

Thanks

Please see the personal message I have sent you in the forum.

Received and answered. Thank you.

Just to note that LifeSteala and I are working on this issue together outside the forum (for which my thanks) and we will report back to the forum with our findings.

Alan, thanks a lot! This seems indeed very interresting.

Please keep us updated, I’d also be very interested in finding out more about this one.

Thanks
