New Avast Secure Browser

Starting today, we offer new Avast Secure Browser during Avast Antivirus installation.
Our updated secure browser, designed to deliver both a secure and private browsing experience! Avast Secure Browser includes, Anti-Tracking, Anti-Fingerprinting, Bank Mode, Adblock and Extension Guard, all easily controllable from the Security & Privacy Center.

More information can be found at: https://blog.avast.com/take-back-control-of-your-privacy-with-avast-secure-browser-avast

It can be also downloaded from here: https://www.avast.com/secure-browser

System requirements

We’re not demanding. All you need is a PC running Windows 10, 8.1, 8 or 7 and 400 MB of hard disk space. And that’s it.

Pre-empting the demise of XP support by Avast

“Note: Avast collects and sends usage statistics and crash reports to company servers automatically. Users are not prompted about this during installation. You may disable the collecting and sending on secure://settings/ under privacy and security.”

So much for the subject of privacy.

For the sake of clarification:

Since the secure browser has a separate download link listed above, is that aimed only at existing avast users who haven’t yet updated to get the secure browser, or is it being made available to all internet users (who meet the other hardware/software requirements)?

Hi, ASB is a standalone product an can be used even without Avast installed.

I thought there were some elements in ASB that required Avast to be installed, but it is still a stand alone browser ?

Hi Dave, yes (e.g. for bank mode) and yes, it’s still a stand alone browser.

This has been pushed onto me since I updated my software recently, I presume. I did not ask for this and I cannot see a way in the ‘Modify Installation’ screen to get rid of it permanently. Is this possible? If not, I will be looking for another AV provider.

It happens to be an excellent browser but it’s your choice.

Hello everyone, I have a question on the browser. Is there no way to transfer bookmarks and passwords (from Firefox) without having to select Avast as the default browser?

If I do this, can I unselect Avast as the default browser?

Selecting the default browser and importing your bookmarks are two different functions. one has nothing to do with the other.

I understand how to use Add / Remove programs. I understand that I can find an uninstall.exe in the folder Avast Software has created, unasked, on my C:\ drive. I use this to delete the unwanted programme, frequently. However, after I reboot the machine, there it is again. As I said, I didn’t ask for it and I don’t want it. It may be the best thing since sliced bread, but I’ve managed to live without it so far and that’s the way I’d like to stay. If you’d like to show me how to * permanently * delete this unwanted and un-needed software, I’d be most grateful.

Use the Secure Browser Removal Tool https://download.avastbrowser.com/avast_secure_browser_uninstall.exe

nice product,
I tested on this http://www2.putlockertv.io/ the ad blocker failed to block so many adds there and clicking on any part of the browser will open a pop up window,
but overall, it’s a nice product

Thanks for the link, but I fear that that is the same uninstaller that gets pushed onto my C:// drive with the unwanted software. This uninstalls it temporarily, not permanently. It looks like the only solution is to totally uninstall Avast and replace it with something else. This will also lead me not to recommend Avast to other people, which is a great shame as I have been championing it for many years.

Since the Browser is a standalone product, you don’t need Avast AV to use it.
Why would you want to uninstall the AV portion which has nothing to do with the stand alone Secure Browser ???

How can I turn off the pop up blocker? Where did the easy tool to go into bank mode go?

Today Avast Secure Browser installed without my knowledge. But more annoying thing is that it changed my default browser to Avast Secure Browser and it automaticlly autoruns with Windows :o . I’ve changed it back, but please make it choosable by the user, not to force anyone to use it…

Why it installed on Windows XP despite it’s not supported OS? Bug?

The OS isn’t compatible/supported.

A bit like Firefox (and Chrome also I believe) and XP, there is the ESR version of Firefox that supports XP, that however ends at the end of August 2018 and there will be no more updates for the ESR version and XP.
