Since the new engine update for avast my household has noticed that firefox will freeze at random times. The freeze lasts anywhere from 1 second to having to completely restart firefox. If anyone has a solution to this issue it would be greatly appreciated if you could share 
Additional note: My computer does not have the issue often. when it does it doesnt last. Other computers in my house have the issue but worse (i.e restarting firefox). Im not sure but i was thinking it had something to do with a bug in the webshield maybe?
What avast version are you using 9.0.2016 being the latest ?

I have avast! free version 9.0.2016 and firefox 28.0 and am not noticing this.

I wonder if he toggles the state of each shield one-by-one he can determine the culprit. Maybe web/script shield could be a lucky guess?
I think before we start speculating we should get the version information requested.
Since the script shied was incorporated into the web shield there really is only one shield to check, the web shield. The real problem here is the inconsistency of the problem, if it truly were a bug I would expect it to be consistent and see many others reporting the issue.
The only other thing to check would be the avast internet security (AOS) add-on, it may be possible that there could be conflict with any other security based add-on in the OP’s installation of firefox.
Firefox is the newest as well as avast free.
What other security based add-ons do you have in firefox ?
You could try disabling the AOS add-on in firefox.
