New AVAST User: Shockwave Flash No Longer Working in Google Chrome

Hi,

I recently installed AVAST on my ASUS laptop and ever since the running of my machine has been slow and my Internet usage disrupted by ‘Plug in (Shockwave Flash) not responding’ on virtually every page I browse.

I’m completely useless when it comes to IT so really not sure how to resolve (I’m even having problems navigating the Forum - Arg!!).

Can anyone, in words of one sylable, help me?

Thank you!

Hello Rebecca27. Try uninstalling and reinstalling Shockwave Flash. Let me know if it works? As far as I can tell this behavior “Shockwave flash not responding” and if it doesn’t respond asap it will crash. This behavior happens if you have many tabs of google chrome for example 30 google chrome windows and doing multitasking it will not respond at some point and eventually crash and you will have to refresh/reopen all of them again.

One other thing that can cause this issue is spyware/adware/malware inside your computer without even your knowledge and it can cause browser stability and functions issues. Try doing a full system scan of avast and if you don’t have MalwareBytes Antimalware Free Edition download it and install it. For Malwarebytes Antimalware Free Edition once it get installed it will give you two options (both of them will be ticked). First option Enable free-trail of the premium edition and second option Launch MalwareBytes Antimalware. Simply uncheck the 1st option and click finish and after that follow the instruction. It will do a full system scan to see if any malware are found.

Another reason might be causing is what previous antivirus did you have prior to installing Avast? Did you use it’s previous antivirus uninstall utility to remove it completely or not? Leftovers files and registry files of previous antivirus program can cause issues and problems.

Let me know if it will helps?
