I encountered the same incident as mentionned above by chris…
After Updating manually to the newest version, and restarting my computer right after, Avast did not launch. After 10 minutes, I checked on the programs running and found that Avast was running and taking quite a chunk of memory as well as Avast Installer and seemingly a number of programs that i don’t usually see and may with little doubt be linked to Avast. I double clicked on the Avast icons with no result, and decided to restart anew, at which point the computer stuck on restarting, forcing me to manually shut down my computer and start it anew a few seconds later. To note that the computer did start normally thereafter and i was relieved to see Avast App launch with the Updates detail screen as it should have happened initially.
So far, Avast seem to run normally and i’m quite dumbfounded by the event, nonetheless, i decided to report it, like my fellow above. I don’t know if the problem call for a repair of Avast or anything like it, and since i’m not knowledgeable enough on the matter i think i will it at that so far as i seems to be running normally.
Well ordinarily, I’m in no hurry to update with program updates set to Manual.
I monitor the forums and see what is included in the Update, What’s new, Improvements and Bug Fixes, etc.
If I’m not impacted, I don’t have the problem or need the new or improved feature/function I may simply hold back.
Strangely I did a manual update (rather than my usual sloth approach), given some of the comments and posts. I wasn’t impacted by this need to do 2 restarts.
I have never installed the Avast Firewall component in Avast Free from when it was first introduced - I used another paid firewall option (Outpost Firewall Pro, bought out). Now I just use the Windows Firewall.
So could it be this interaction, flip/flop between firewalls.
NEW DNS traffic scan - We’ve improved our detection scan to monitor your network by filtering out malicious domains and patterns early on. ?
whether the feature is also available to free users or only paid users ?
and how it works feature
answer please !!!
Hi,
My system did and automatic update to 23.7.6074 (25th Jul '23)
On exiting Outlook, Outlook crashes with module ntdll.dll and sometimes Windows Explorer crashes with module kernel32.dll
I have had to un-install Avast to get my system working again.
I know I’m running old software but it’s an old machine which normally work just fine until this update arrived.
Window 7 SP1, Outlook 2003 (11.83308329 SP3) and latest Avast.
Anyone else having issues, for now I can’t run Avast.
Hi. I had an odd problem possibly related to the update.
After several good years of running in Silent Mode, only blocking when a website was infected, my round system tray showed the red caution.
I tried to open the user interface, but the screen popup said the program crashed. This is unusual, since Avast Free has been running reliably on my ancient Win 7 64-bit for years now.
After 3 crashes in a row, trying various things to get the user window opened, I rebooted in Safe Mode with Networking to download a new install.
I ran the installer, then rebooted. Finally, the new version works.
My suggestion is for the “update” button on the crash screen to open the Avast download web page in the user’s default browser window.
This could have saved me a lot of time trying to update through the user window, getting told it won’t update, and then getting the reboot button.
You track the version numbers well enough to suggest an update, but when the user interface window crashes more than once there’s no alternative suggested.
Bootstrap scan not scanning all files since latest update.
Issue has been raised on support ticket 18687891.
Anybody else getting the same issue?
I have already:
Uninstalled and reinstalled the application.
Done a system cache clean
issue still happening when bootstrap scan reaches >20% I start getting file read errors.
Laptop specifications:

Processor: Intel core™ i7-3610QM CPU @2.30GHz, 2301 Mhz, 4 core(s), 8 logical processors

Any assistance on getting this fixed would be appreciated.
