New Beagle worm

Hi All,

there is a new Beagle variant out there and it seems to have pretty fresh start. The latest database detects it as a Win32:Beagle-Y.

Pavel

this came through the F-Secure Virus News Module of FSAV

New Bagle variant (Bagle.Y) has been found. This variant sends variable emails with EXE/COM/SCR/VBS/HTA/CPL/ZIP attachments, and might include pictures of girls or a poem to the mails it sends.

How can iI get rid of this dam*ed Thing???

So… your system is infected by Beagle.Y?

In that case, it’s easiest to download and run the avast! Virus Cleaner – our free tool that will get you rid of the virus - instantly.

Hope this helps,

I’m a new user of avast and it can’t get rid of the old beagle worm for me! It has identified it in windows irun4.exe files The original files cannot be removed. ( when I initially ran the removal/cleaner the computer froze numerious times.) I did a search to isolate the corrupt files, copied them to my desktop and tried to repair but they still have the virus. any suggestions?

use the avast virus cleaner

Question re Win32:Beagle-Z [Wrm]
I received an email (message below between the lines) regarding mail supposedly sent from myself to myself, with an attachment – which I of course did not open. I’ve gotten a bunch lately that masquerade as something I’ve sent someone, or someone at my association has sent me – NOT.

Once I got an email from someone I do know with I subject I did send; and the email said I supposedly had a virus. I ignored and tossed the email because I’m on a router and am antivirused daily (Nortons).

Warning: antivirus system report
The following message has been detected by the antivirus system
The original message was received at Tue, 04 May 2004 15:28:10 -0400
The message was sent from: “Sylvia” sylvia_willis@rvda.ca
The message was sent to: “SYLVIA” SYLVIA_WILLIS@RVDA.CA
The virus found was: Win32:Beagle-Z [Wrm]

In trying to find out what the virus is about I got:
“Win32:Beagle is a massmailing worm which will be active only till 28th January 2004. It installs the backdoor into the operating system”

I’m guessing this means someone externally can access my OS. Am I right?
How can I check my system without causing problems?

Thanks for any information / assist.

Sylvia

Receiving an email alert stating that the virus came from your email address is NOT an indication that you are infected
as the virus forges the “from” address:

  • somewhere in the infinite reaches of the universe/internet, a PC is infected with netsky AND has your Email-adress saved somewhere.
The Worm then sends out itself with fake sender-adress; a Mailserver-Scanner then wrongly interprets this virus-mail as coming from you, and sends you the above (inappropriate and useless) reply.

what does a full scan with updated AV-Scanner say ?
if it says your PC is clean, it most probably is

Read the virusinfos (see below) on BEagle
For the future:
apply all Windowsupdates, and configure your Mail-Program and Web-Browser more securely (see board-search above)

Thanks for the info and reassurance.

Cheers,

Sylvia ;D
