I`m glad to announce that new beta version is ready - 20.7.2423 (build 20.7.5545).
What was fixed
not all configuration is removed from registry after uninstallation (remains just settings that needs to remain)
reset and restore (from backup file) of the settings does not work properly
changing UI language no longer requires a reboot
list of sensitive documents found or already protected shows just one file (although all found files are protected - user interface problem)
Known issues
smart scan can be automatically executed after the update from presious 20.7 BETA build (actually not so common as there must not be any UI openning before the update)
there is issue with installation the product into a folder containing diacritics (and other characters may be affected too)
Yes, that’s what i meant. Thanks.
I remember not long ago Avast used to consume around 40-50 MB with my configuration. Now it’s 80-90. I’m running a low end machine so RAM usage is quite important to me.
I took the plunge and installed this beta. The RAM usage is the same 80-90 MB. I understand RAM usage does not fully reflect a program’s resource usage, just something easily to measure.
I’d prefer if (un)installer asked me if I want to keep anything or not. And then do actions accordingly. If I say “Remove everything” it should act like I’m running avast! Uninstall Utility. Leave NOTHING behind. If I decide to leave something behind, do so. It’s really annoying that apps leave bunch of crap behind which just ends up being a liability or issue vector later in time, especially when reinstalling because of an issue…
After the last few updates, I’ve noticed and have had to restore the spinning circle in windows 10.
To fix it I’ve had to go into SystemPropertiesAdvanced and under advanced restart animate controls and elements in windows.
(note it is checked but not working.) I have to uncheck and re-check and then apply the change to get the animation back.
I’ve also noticed that when I don’t see that spinning circle while the system is either restarting or shutting down
that’s when I usually have a problem with the shutdown procedure where it hangs forever.
I also know that Avast has been adding items to the registry and wonder if it’s effected this behavior?
Hello,
don’t worry, RAM usage for registry configuration is almost the same as for ini files. It’s just a thin layer in our settings module.
From performance point of view, read is also very similar to ini files, write will be a bit faster since there is no need to save whole settings file to disk.
