I wanted to try a different Browser, (other than IE6). Do not like Opra, and
Fire Fox (OS Not supported). Down loaded two that were OS ME compadable and installed from (Snapfiles), the last was Acoobrowser.exe, and ME compatible. Really a nice browser, but as with the others since I tried Opera, when ever I would try to access a menu, or open a file from MY desk top, or go to START, to restart of go to another menu as soon as I click on these afore mentioned. I would get, "explorer.exe. has caused an error in Kernel xx. If problem persists restart system. was at that time frozen up and had to do a push putton restart. I have removed Opra from my system and if took out several other things I had to reinstall. Could this be causing the “explorer” error ? Thanks.
True, Firefox 2 doesn’t get any updates anymore, but neither does ME, so security must not be the most important factor for this user. For Firefox 2, you can still install NoScript, so that will make it pretty safe.
And from what I see, Opera is the only major browser that is still supported for ME, so if you can get Opera to work, that is probably your best bet.
forgive me, but you are already on an operating system that is outdated and no longer receiving security updates.
FWIW, I must agree with the wise thoughts of Alan Baxter, that to compound this with a browser that you would be using, day in day out, lacking up to date security is a risk that you need to embrace with your eyes wide open and fully cognizant of the risks you choose.
If you can find a browser that will sustain you, for as long as possible, with security updates then, despite any cosmetic drawbacks, it would - I think - serve you better.
Please … also consider that the day, if not passed already, draws ever closer when you need to move to a currently supported operating system - with all its up to date supporting software - for the next phase of your online experience.
