Not sure if this is the place, but I did notice something that seems to be wrong. I have the latest version of Avast Home, running on XPSp2. A couple of days ago, I had the DSL modem turned off as well as the computer. When I turned on the computer, I forgot the modem. As the normal desktop came up, the little blue notification window came up and said it had installed new defs. Huh? The modem is off and I don’t think it was from before I shut the computer down. Anyone have any idea why this should be? Thanks

Do you have a dial-up modem too?
To answer the two replies, yes, I am almost certain of what the window said, but as you say, I could have read it wrong. As I remember, it specifically said it had installed a new def.
And to the other question, no, I haven’t had a dialup connection for years.
Thanks for pointing out the live email. Obviously, even with my experience in computers, I am a total newbie at forums. I don’t communicate very well with computers. That’s why I have and use telephones, amateur radio and other live methods. I have email accounts mostly for on line purchases and some bill paying, not for communication.
