New firewall tests are out

Hey folks, just an update that the new Matousec tests are out. PC Tools jumps to a 100%.

What I can see is that the free software is going further than the paid one…

man oh man PC Tools wow, better then the big hitters incredible

If they can polish the interface, and perhaps add some of the more advanced settings that Comodo has, I would switch in a skinny minute.

i just tried to install it with avast free 5.0 it said i had avast internet security installed and it would conflict so i went no further. man i thought that was a bit odd cause i did have the AIS in before going to the AV Free 5.0

PCTools needs additional flexibility to even be competitive with Comodo.

Which firewall(s) does Windows Security Center show as active?

Comodo is more intuitive for sure. OH when i checked it showed windows xp firewall. pretty strange i even looked in the alwil program folder no traces of the Avast IS.

Turn off Windows XP Firewall in Control Panel, reboot, and try installing PCTools Firewall (or Comodo).

No joy? Delete the contents (but not folder) of C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\Repository, reboot. Try again.

Another Comodo Dragon Lover heard from. ;D

PCTools Firewall Plus has worked flawlessly on all my systems. Comodo has caused me nothing but headaches.

I am not a Comodo fan, just stating what i see in the two GUI Formats.

  1. I’m a Comodo fan. I have problems with PC Tools softwares (everything, even remnants of program uninstalled). With Comodo ( but I don’t recommend their AV software though!!!) you get an Excellent firewall for free. What more???

Good results by top 3.
Kaspersky was really a surprise though. Its the only AIO suite to reach 10+ rating kaspersky is known for its Antimalware capabilities but it has performed really well here. Same goes to Norton 2010 too.

The eternal fight for the best in a category…
Each head, each sentence.

Best is a very subjective term, best when judged against what, a set of tests, as opposed to best for a users requirements. So for me this is guidance rather than abeyance.

Any of the 7 firewalls considered Excellent will be fine.

What most of it comes down to is user preference: How much resources do they use; How user friendly is it (not a mass of pop-up questions); What is the User Interface like, is it something you can live with; What functionality does it have; How configurable is it, etc. etc.

All of these make the choice more than simply what came top of the heap this time round.

I guess I wouldn’t call myself a “Comodo Fan”, I would switch to PC Tools without a second thought. I’m just one of those users that like all those extra settings to play with.

Exactly what I meant by what best suits the user, not simply a batch of arbitrary tests ;D

I’m using Online Armor Premium 4.0.0.15 which is no.3 in the test
For some reason the last couple of versions of PC Tools Firewall would block internet access on my laptop ::slight_smile: ???

I strongly agree,

Poor buddy of mine chooses his Firewall and AV based on “tests” and such, as soon as new tests would be released he would change to whatever is #1. I always told him to stick with what he likes but he never listens ::slight_smile:

The first time I installed the pc tools firewall plus I got some problems, the firewall don’t start at the startup and sometimes it automatically closes.
The second time I reinstalled no more problems like that^^
