Trying to install new version of avast and keep getting error 0 spawning tried to uninstall avast with no success. Then tried to uninstall with aswclear and it says not a valid win32 app! Does anyone have any advice? Thank you
Hello and welcome to the Forum
At first a few questions:
Which OS? (32/64 Bit - which SP)
Which avast-version? (Free, Pro, Internet Security)
Any other security related software installed?
DJBone
Os is Vista version 6 (build 6002 service pack 2)
32bit
Trying to install avast free and the only other security I have installed is Malwarebytes.
Do you have the free version of Malwarebytes?
Have you tried to uninstall avast in safe mode or normal mode?
DJBone
Please go ahead and try to download the installation files through some other browsers ,other than internet explorer… I recommend Google Chrome… Or the latest Mozilla Firefox
Yes free version of malwarebytes and I have tried to uninstall it in safe mode and regular mode
Do you had any other AV installed before?
DJBone
Mcafee when computer was new but uninstalled and have been through 2 or 3 versions of avast since then.

Error 0 spawning and not a valid win32 app! could be related to corrupted files because a bad download or an infection.
Download Avast! Uninstall Utility again from here:
http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
Download your Avast! from here:
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe
Then try the right deinstaller for McAfee from here to remove leftovers: www.singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

After that you can try this:
DJBone
When I download there it tells me that it is not a valid win32 application
Do you use a Downloadmanager for downloading?
DJBone
No but tried to download with ie8 and chrome same result both ways.
Is aswclear.exe 317 KB ?
it is 47k
Then there it is something wrong. It must be 317 kB.

Hi cboyles1,
This may be related to this issue given here. See: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94552.240
Read the whole page to get a glimpse of what this Vista SP2 user was experiencing.
Good catch Donovan. I was going to suggest Bagle worm, but that could be it.
Thanx 8) But the suggest was from !Donovan
