i just saw in the updater on one of my machines the free version when i opened avast 5.1884 was available
I was on the beta pre release prior- 5.1874
Did the upgrade- asked for a reboot and so far all is fine
my other machine running the free vers1on 5.1864 (which btw i had no problems with it on this machine) doesn’t have the upgrade yet.
Do you roll it out in bunches?
Also how come in the past it used to popup telling me that there was an upgrade. Now it doesn’t- why?
How is a user to know it needs an update unless they open it up and see it?
Something should popup or the icon in the startup should turn color or something to show there is an upgrade
I’m still using 5.0.677 right now because I had problems with 5.1.864. Will I be able to directly update to 5.1.884 when it’s available, or will I have to install the other two updates first, or should I just uninstall Avast! and clean install 5.1.884?
5.1.864 is a public, general release build.
5.1.874 was a Pre-release (beta-ish) build.
5.1.884 is another Pre-release (beta-ish) build.
Users with the General release builds will not be notified of PR builds.
Users with previous PR builds will be notified of updated PR builds, UNTIL they are updated to a final general release build.
You have to choose the PR builds, they are not offered by the GUI.

i am lost.
Since i upgraded from .64 to .77 via the pre release you are telling me for future releases that go through the normal updater i will not be getting them?
now that i am at 5.1884 any future upgrades will only come if i download a pre release? and if I do not and just wait for the one that goes out to the general public I will not be able to get that one?
Please confirm
thanks

Yes you will get the stable when it’s released.
relax ;D upgrading manually to this pre-release (and only if you really need it) won’t prevent you to be automatically prompted to upgrade to the final release
Pre-release .884 (free) is running great here. Windows 7 Ultimate (all updates) and Windows XP SP3 (all updates) are now booting quicker with this release.
Personally if I had problems with 5.1.864, I would have first tried 5.1.874 to see if that resolved the problem with .864 and give feedback to the developers one way or another on what the problem was and if it was resolved or not. If not I would have then tried 5.1.884, but fortunately I didn’t have any issues with 5.1.864.
That is the whole point of using the pre-release versions to see if it fixed your problem and even then you should only have been using the pre-release build if you had problems with 5.1.864, then you should have stuck with it if at all possible.
You don’t have to install the interim pre-release builds.
Hi All.
Hi Avast Team.
We did not! No good!
Explorer freezes when I try to access a folder containing the EXE file.
Exe files are made with QB64 compiler (see http://www.qb64.net), which compiles the source code with "MinGW GCC compiler (see http://www.mingw.org/).
In practice with 5.1.884 I can no longer access the folder.
I am forced to remove the explorer process from task manager.
Explorer goes to reboot and the icons are reloaded (bad).
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling from scratch, but nothing to do!.
I uninstalled the BS, but nothing to do.
Removing avast back to have access to the folder. Install avast and again the problem.
I am forced to reinstall 5.1.874. Let’s hope so.
Help me avast team.
Tell me what I do and I have to send.
Now reboot and you do know what happened (reinstall 5.1.874 from scratch).
