New to IS 5 and a few questions about Sandox and FIrewall

Hello:

I’m trialing avast! IS 5 to decide if it’s worth the buy, and I have a few questions about it.
First: the Help file for the firewall says that on the Advanced Options I should see four tabs: Policies, Network Profiles, Process Control and Friends (my pic is in Spanish but I did a rough translation). The problem is that I only have three: Policies, Network Profiles and Friends.
I’m using IS in 2 PC’s both windows 7 one x64 the other x32, both show identical advanced options… what’s the deal here? is there something wrong with my install or there is an option missing?

The other question is with Sandbox: I use Opera mostly and it work’s fine with the sandbox (as long as I exclude it’s User folders user>AppData>Local and Roaming>Opera. E D I T : Opera does not always work right on the Sandbox, even If you exclude the above mentioned folders, the mail engine (remember that Opera has M2 Mail Client) won’t start and sometimes Flash won’t either… so there is still some work to be done here.
What doesn’t work with the sandbox is IE9 Beta. I know it’s a beta, just thought I’d post in case anyone had a fix for that.

Martin.-

I do not use Opera, but perhaps this will help you with AIS: http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=482&ratingconfirm=1. Note: there are instructions for configuring with Opera in this link.

Here is information regarding mail: http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=458.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. will read it and post back.
EDIT: I almost forget. The mail shield in AIS5 works fine. What fails to start is Opera’s Mail Engine, and it is definitely related to the sandbox because I had never seen Opera do that before.
Another EDIT: I’m also not having problems configuring the firewall. I’m not an expert but not a novice either so I’ve had my share of firewall rule creation since Kerio 2.
Anything about the firewall and the missing “Process Control” ?

Martin.-

I have seen another thread about this, however there were no answers…

Just guessing, but maybe something that may be included later?

Yes, I saw that thread but since I had other questions I decided to start a new one. ;D
I’m still wondering about the Sandbox. There is no help file here (https://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=view&parentcategoryid=20&pcid=1&nav=0,1) that tells you how to configure it to work properly. Right now Opera is working for me but sometimes parts of it just won’t start. Either the mail engine will fail or the plug-ins wont load, mostly flash of course.

Martin.

There is a new known issue going on with the upgraded FF and Avast SB http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=63981.0 that Avast Team is working on since FF did their recent upgrade. I know this doesn’t affect you, but perhaps there is an issue with SB. I would submit a Ticket to Avast https://support.avast.com/.

They may have you submit a mini-dump for them to recreate the problem in the Avast Lab and try to resolve your problem. Here is additional information on how to invoke a memory dump file: http://support.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=71. Remember to rename your file uniquely.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Please continue to check this thread as the Avast Team often will communicate with you through the thread you created or sometimes through your email. Thank you.

Once your issue has been resolved, you can post it here in the thread on how it was fixed, and go back to the first open post in this topic, click the modify button in that post and change the title/subject, add [Resolved] to the beginning of the title so this thread can be closed.

In the meantime, I will continue to monitor your thread as well.

You’ll find the settings for the Sandbox under Real-Time Shields - Process Virtualization - Expert Settings.

And yes the help files are still incomplete, especially about the SB and FW.

Thank you m416.

Thank you all for the help. Will submit the support ticket and see what happens.

postin a pic of the error…

Second Edit: The only way to use Opera in the sandbox is to exclude all its folders from it. The main program folder and the profile folders under the User account. At least that is the only setup working for me. Is it secure? I mean, what’s the point of having a sandbox if you have to exclude all the programs folders in order for it to run properly?
