I am using a computer which was left in the room which I am renting. It appears to have Avast 4 on it, but I obviously do not have the registration key so I cant get much info on it. My question is; Will the program continue to provide protection, or does it have an expiry date? Do i need to uninstall the one that is currrently running, and download a new one? Will it automatically download updates?

You have to renew the registration after a year has past. check if it’s the latest version. and it should download updates automatically.
No, not a full protection as new virus won’t be added to the database. You need to update.
If you’re connected to the internet, just renew your registration, add the new key, update. No need to uninstall the previous version.
Depends on what you’ll set. Default are automatic updates for virus databases and inform when there is a new program update.
