New User - any tips?

Hi,

Just moved from AVG 7.5 as it’s about explode and self destruct on May 31st (or stop offering updates at least)
Wondering if there’s any classic tips from you master Avast users to get me started.
Not looking for maximum protection, just a sensible blend of AV security that will not slow my system down to a crawl.
Any thoughts?

Leave it set to the default settings until you get to know the program as they provide a good balance between protection and performance.

You could browse the forums, especially the sticky topics at the top of each of the forums, not to mention the avast help file. They provide a wealth of information to help you get the best from avast.

I also have used AVG free versuion up to now for over 8 years and I had major problems after I upgarded to their free version 8.0

After trying the Avast Free Home 4.8 I am now trying the Pro Version for the 60 days trial period [60 days]
From its present performance it looks like I will puchase the Pro Avast program

Very pleased with the Avast progamming. Its Great!!!

Now my only suggestion is for you try/use the other “Skin” of “szc-kde” with which I feel is more acceptable to use. To change double click on the Avast desktop icon and then click on “Menu” key and there within you see “Select Skin”.
If you rather return to use the default skin you can return to change it back!

I feel it is a pity Avast do not have a"Manual" for this programming

I would also suggest the avist skin, that is the current one I use.

Unfortunately from version 5 there will be no skinned interface as the third party skinning software is no longer available, but the GUI will be updated.

Hi soz for hoggin this post, i had been hearing about this version 5, is this going to be the upgrade from 4.8 home ed if so will there be added extra features.

As far I heard, it will be necessary to uninstall version 4.8 and then install version 5.

Sure. Although there isn’t a list for them (yet).
