New user problems

Hi i have just downloaded Avast but when i try and receive my emails i get the following error code

The server responded with an error. Account: ‘pop tiscali.co.uk’, Server: ‘pop.tiscali.co.uk’, Protocol: POP3, Server Response: ‘-ERR concurrent connections limit in avast exceeded (processes:???[20])’, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

So what do i need to do so i can keep receiving my emails, i am using outlook express.
Keep all replies simple.

Which is your operational system? Windows 98 or XP?
Did you try to search this forum for 0x800CCC90 or tiscali keywords?
Do you use a firewall, which one?
Do you use a spam killer application, which one?

Operating system is Windows XP, the firewall is the windows one

Did you try searching the board? For instance: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=9478.msg79220#msg79220
Did you just copy and past the error message? What is processes:[20]) on it? Did you change the text?

Hi tech i just copied and pasted the error message.

It seems to be working now, i had disabled Kaspersky Av so i decided to uninstall it and hey presto it is now working. Thanks to all who replied.

Why did you give up on Kaspersky? It costs too much just to be ‘changed’ from time to time… ::slight_smile:

Kaspersky was due to expire this week, so after reading all the items on Avast i thought i would give it a go, on the first scan it detected a lot of viruses.

Hello bikeit,

I’m pretty sure you won’t regret your decision to try avast! I also had Kaspersky at one time but the program was extremely unstable for me and it would just disable it’s self for some unknown reason and generate an error message. This happened on two different computers. One was an older model and the other is my current PC, a new emachine with a fresh install of Windows XP. My email was never answered and because I’m here in the U.S. I wasn’t about to call their customer support # which is based in Russia. I looked for a U.S phone # but I could not locate one. So in time I discovered avast! 4.6 and I haven’t looked back since!

So, welcome to avast!
Feel free to ask any question you have
