new user

i installed avast yesterday and uninstalled my avg.
i ran a scan on my system and it came up with 2 problems which i sent to the chest.
but it seemed to stop scanning till i did this.
is there a section where i can instruct it to do this automatically or ask at the end of the scan?
it took all night to scan an 80gb disc
i have a 120gb disc too which i thought it would do at the same time it did not.
is there a function for that too?
i have looked through the settings and cannot see an obvious one.
please bear with me i know i am a bit thick with these things.
all help will be greatly appreciated

No, only in Professional version (see picture here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=13315.msg112285#msg112285).

In Home version you can check the option “Don’t show this window again” as soon as the first virus warning appears, and click on “No action” button. This way, nothing will be done and you will be presented the results at the end (and you can perform actions from there).

Welcome to avast forums.

With the work around Tech mentions helps, but you still have to wait for a detection though. Over time this will become less of an issue, as the resident, on-access scanners are designed to intercept infection before it gets into your system.

The type of scan you do will have an impact on how many files are scanned and how long it will take, some files are probably worth skipping in on-demand scans.

Archive (zip, rar, etc.) files are by their nature are inert, you need to extract the files and then you have to run them to be a threat. Long before that happens avast’s Standard Shield should have scanned them and before an executable is run that is scanned. Thorough is also by its design very thorough and perhaps a little overkill for routine use, were a Standard scan without archives should be adequate.

I have only ever done a through scan with archives once shortly after installation just to ensure a clean start state, but with XP for example avast will do a boot-time scan after installation if you select it, this I believe will be quicker and reasonably effective. Like everything in life things are a compromise.

And to make sure you have COMPLETELY REMOVED AVG Antivirus, review the
