New version 5 issues

I have just installed the new version 5 (many years user of Avast! - love it!!). I have had a look at setting but cannot find solutions to these two issues.

  1. Mail is opening in plain text where it once was opening in HTML. Whilst I understand that plain is safer I have trusted emails that arrive and are best viewed in HTML. How do I undo what it seems Avast has done to protect me.

  2. Although the links from my FaceBook message alerts work in that they take me to my browser (FireFox) and open the page…nothing is displayed. I know this is Avast because as soon as I stop my Avast services the links work and the page loads.

Have I installed version 5 prematurely? ???

TIA - Alan

Hi,

did you upgrade directly from V4 ? this could be the source or your issues. If you did so, uninstall Avast completely and reinstall V5 from scratch. You can use this utility to make sure you actually got rid of everything before re-installing:

At first I installed over 4.8. Had all sorts of problems so after searching found the ‘safe mode’ uninstall tat wipes everything and then installed 5 nice and fresh :-). Everything seems to be running fine now apart from the two issues I mentioned.

I dont think my install is bad after going the safe mode uninstall method using the utility you mention.

Any other ideas before I go back to 4.8?

PS - Using Outlook 2003

avast5 shouldn’t have anything to do with how the email is viewed, it just scans it.

Check your settings in Outlook 2003 as I believe you can toggle the way email is viewed. I don’t use Outlook so I can’t offer any practical advice on how to do that.
