On Windows XP SP3 I have had UI Failed to load problem since updating to 17.4.2291. Today I updated (in hope!) to program 17.4.2294 (Build 17.4.3482.0) - but I still have the ‘UI failed to load’ problem!! Any chance of a real fix?
Got the full offline installer from the link about V2291 … it did fetch 17.4.2294 version and it installed fine on XP PRO SP3 and also on Windows 10 Home 64 computers … so far, fine.
In the attachment it show the latest version. After the update and restarting my desktop I performed a smart scan. ( to see if the details could now be viewed. ) But after the update their was no log of a smart scan in the notification tab? So I tried it a second time, but I got the same result … no log of a smart scan in the notification tab?
Also the older smart scan logs still restart the smart scan as before. Although that might be because they where done before the update, and as such are not influenced by the update. But still … no new smart scan log after two smart scans? ??? ( After the update, and restarting my desktop. )
Why not give us a select all button to choose actions for all items.I rescan my submitted samples everyday and I don’t want to sit here selecting delete for every single item. I don’t understand why this feature has been taken away from us.
I don’t know if this is only related to the Special Scans (context menu scan) as previously on-demand scan results had a selection of the action to be taken.
Thanks for all replies to my posting (Reply#1) - but I have tried ALL suggested remedies for quite some time now without success. Before updating to 17.4.2291 Avast was working perfectly on my system. Avast still shows my system as secured but since the UI fails to load I can only access Avast by right clicking the taskbar icon - ‘About Avast’ - which gives me access to ‘General’; ‘Update’; ‘Components’ etc.
If there is no solution to the problem then don’t waste time worrying about it.”(Dalai Lama)
Thanks DavidR for new version alert including:
“- fixed notification of finished Smart Scan, now it correctly shows the results instead of starting the scan again”
With this this new version, after a Smart Scan completes you see the results displayed and the Notification (Bell) icon is no longer lit for your attention as before. However, if you choose to click the Notifications (Bell) icon to display Notifications, and then click to view details of a smart scan, Smart Scan starts again. So this illogical behaviour not really fixed, just obscured. I have checked this occurs on WinXPSP3 and Win10 machines.

This new version is causing AvastUI on my system to go cpu crazy and is mostly incapacitated by it, my only guess would be its actually the gui, or rather hope.
Im getting 40% cpu usage on a i7-4790k just by opening the gui, if i run a smart scan in barely runs and pushes the cpu up a bit, but if I event visit the anti virus tab cpu goes to 100 % and stays there but the scans wont run, basicaly the user interface is broken… was having a long stint of no issues with my avast and windows 10 install before I updated to this version earlier today and once i needed to get into the gui I found it like this and closing the UI doesnt even reduce the cpu load at all it just sits there cranking away, but I dont even have scans scheduled.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but a pretty perfect track record with avast has turned into it suddenly making my system unusable with this update, please, help.
UPDATE: Uninstalling and installing from the online update file seems to have resolved it.
Thanks for update. I did clean install. Here are some bugs i found:
Scanning files inside virus chest still not working.
When scanning by Smart scan or other virus tests, progress popup percentage does not match with percentage in main window. Also if i close popup, it reopen again sometimes.
When opening Notifications, it opens like game with 10 FPS. I think whole gui is slow but most noticeable is in notifications.
Selfdef.log contain this (Czech langugage) “Přístup pro zápis do souboru \Device\HarddiskVolume3\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\settings.manifest odepřen. [C:\Program Files\Common Files\AV\avast! Antivirus\backup.exe][2]” Also i have no file called settings.manifest in this location.
I would like to know if someone found those issues too. Thank you.
Today’s pushed update broke my internet connection. Other systems on my LAN are fine, but were not yet updated. I had to do a system restore on the Win10 Pro desktop. I’ll be skipping this update.
