I received the above from download.com today. This is the same version I’m running now or not. I have installed Version 4.8.1335. If the only difference is the data base. As long as AVAST is up to date is there a need to download this version.
Thanking you ahead in this matter,

Hi iddawg717 ,

Well an easy way to find out is to go to the blue spinning ball with an ‘a’ in the middle. Right click on it, hover with the mouse pointer over Updating and click on “Program Update”. This will insure you have the latest release of avast.

Cheers

I hate to sound like a know-it-all but I already knew that.
And you did not answer my question about if this is a new version or not or if it is the same version if I need to download and install or not.

U “may” see my attachment^^

Hope that helps^^

;DI HAVE CHECKED FOR UPDATES AND AVAST IS UP TO DATE.;D
Now how about someone answering the questions that have not been answered.

Theoretically, The latest version is the same as the latest of download.com

Avast! says its program is up-to-date…Thus, It is the avast! that we r using right now^^

“Is there a need…download this version?”

Avast! says its up-to-date right?, So its “up-to-date”…u “may” not install that version^^

Hi, iddawg717,
Simple answer is no, you don’t need to download this.
I’m also subscribed to certain program updates via download dot com, mainly because I have not tidied up my subscriptions with them.
Sometimes update alerts are unimportant, late, or simply inappropriate.
You have version 4.8.1.1335. For some reason unknown to me, Download dot com have decided that the VPS update has constituted a program update.
You might want to ask them about that.
Just make sure your definitions are up to date, or update automatically, you’re fine.

See this: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=45644.msg382561#msg382561

I think the new update was because some people on older hardware were having trouble updating their virus database, if you don’t have any issues like that, you don’t need this, you have the latest.

Go Pack Go,
Way to Go. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
Just wanted to make sure.
Even though I have had a computer for some time; all this is still new to me.
Again, thank you.

I apologize for that. I was uncertain if the last few digits in the number referred to the VPS version or something else. As such I refrained from answering your specific question. The point being was that, if you make the Program update, as I mentioned in my previous post, then there is no need to download it from any other source given that Avast has confirmed that you have the latest version.

Sorry for not being more forward. :frowning:

Not a problem. I probably put the post under the wrong topic. I just figured the “General” category was were it went.
Sorry about that I will try to do better the next time.
