Filename: SilentSoftech.exe
Probable Type: Autorun like virus…removable media worm…
Polymorphic: I think not…
Hello guys, I have emailed virus@avast.com a suspected virus that is propagating here in the Philippines through removable media like flash drives and iPods…
Avast did not detect them but I was able to halt its execution on my PC using Threatfire 3…It tries to install itself to Windows/system32/ folder, put itself on startup list, and cycles every removable drive to copy itself and an autorun.inf file…
Annoying but here in the Philippines, idiot newbie virus makers ride on the popularity of the not-so-intelligent VBS/Solows which is populary known as the “Taga Lipa are” virus. Taga Lipa means “I’m from Lipa City Batangas, Philippines”…maybe for the recognition of his destruction…
Now, newbie virus makers create copycats of “Taga lipa are virus” and the new virus file claims to remove the VBS/Solows…Rogue anti-malware I guess…like that of the disk knight virus which is also very rampant here…
Anyways, I hope the file I have attached will be added soon in your virus definitions…
AND if Avira Antivir has better incremental update and better virus removal routines, I will continue using Avira…
I switched to avast! simply because it removes viruses much better and it downloads updates much better…BUT the downside is a less detection rate relative to avira and kaspersky…
Anyways, my motto now is - “What avast can detect, it can remove…”
so we will just wait until avast include in its definitions what the other AV already have for almost a week earlier…
i think youre’ say the ms32.dll.vbs virus “the soslow virus” modified manytimes… “taga lipa ere” is one, “voda” is another, a week ago i’ve seen “oragon ini”
yep the ms32.dll.vbs,
and youre’ right about avira… the first 1 who identified “soslow” i think ? [ hehehe with the help of the sample “soslow” i sent them… =) ]
I think with these avast should rethink how they can catch viruses in the wild, old and new, so that it can be added immediately into the definitions. Avira is really fast…and so is kaspersky…
I remember one time I sent a false positive report to avira and the next update it is already fixed…
Avast should hire some people that will monitor virus outbreaks and also innovate new ways on catching viruses…
