Newbie help. Manual. Home/Pro. Scheduled scans. Registration. Network drives.

I have several PCs at home. Should I register each of them or is it OK to use the same license key for them all?

I can’t seem to find an explanation of the differences between the free home & pro editions of avast antivirus? Is there one? For instance - what does “Defining your own antivirus tasks” actually mean?

Is it possible to set up scheduled scans for individual folders or whole drives?

I am wondering if I should get the Pro addition for my main PC but use the free addition for my others? Advice here would be appreciated.

I can’t find a downloadable manual for the home edition. In fact I can’t one for either addition. Can someone help me out here?

When I try to scan a network drive a box flashes up for a split second. What is Avast trying to tell me?

Do you use them for Home only? I mean, non-commercial (even non-profit work is not allowed).
If so, you can use the same key.

Tasks are a set of configurations that manage a particular scanning job. Tasks store the sensibility of the scan, what to scan, when (schedule), etc.

Sure. You can manage anything on the Professional version. Just create a particular task for it.

I did the same. I have the Pro version in my ‘main’ computer and in the others in my house I use the Home version.

There isn’t. There are the help files, the forum and the email support.

How are you trying to do that?

Thanks for the quick replies.

Interesting question. Occasionally I work from home. Does that count?

Just from ‘my network places’

Yes. Can you put the Professional version in this computer precisely?

If the network paths are accessible from the computer, they could also be scanned by avast! - there’s no problem with that.

What this flashing dialog could be… don’t know, maybe Windows is somehow logging onto the other system to access the drives? Hard to say, but I’d guess the dialog comes from Windows, not avast!.

Am I to understand that even the slightest work related use means you need buy a license? In that case I will need one on all my PCs because I could potentially use any of them.

I’m not talking software development here - But I check my work emails or send one and once in a blue moon I might telnet into a router if there is a problem. Does this count?

I’ll see if I can video that ‘flashing error messing’ to capture what it is & post back if it works.

It’s not very clear I’m afraid - but the errror (at least I assume it’s an error) when trying to scan a network drive is definately from Avast.

So, you mean that the “avast! Quick Scanner” window only quickly flashes and then disappears, instead of showing the progress of the scan?
Do you have the “Show results of Explorer Extension” option checked on the first page of avast! settings?

Anyway, try to scan the network path using the Simple User Interface… what results do you get?
