Newbie to AVAST

OK Folks,
Tell me I did right!

I bought my first computer almost a year ago, a DELL4600.
Came with Norton, got comfortable with that.
I uninstalled it tonight cause it interfered with AVAST,( the free home setup)

I uninstalled Norton cause it limited AVAST.
But now I need to learn how to use AVAST completely.

I am hoping, since my skills are limited, somebody can post a link to a detailed AVAST tutorial!
