Newbie to this forum, question

I just removed Norton(JUST NOW), cause not happy with it and it turned off several of AVAST abilities.

In am a total newbie.
My question is…
Noticed when scanning with AVAST, I see
SCAN ARCHIVE files is disabled. How do I enable that?

You must put a check in the check box next to “Scan archive files”.

Welcome to the avast! web forum, GhosTT. The forum is full of people who have dropped Norton and started using avast. However, Norton is very difficult to completely get rid of, it sticks to your computer like chewing gum to your shoe. If you have any problems, feel free to ask for help here.

Thank you for the welcome

But as far as putting the checkmark, don’t see where to?
Is this something not available in the free version?

If you are talking about on-access protection, then scanning archive files is a waste of time and CPU power. Why? Because malware in archive files cannot infect your computer, and avast will detect the malware when said archive is extracted.

If you talking about on-demand scanning, then take a look at the picture below.

Thanks for quick response.

Maybe you can tell me—What is the archive files?

They are ZIP, RAR, 7Z, CAB etc

You can find more info from this post:

Another method:
Start avast → menu → settings → uncheck “Enable Skins for simple user interface” → restart avast → Now it will look like the screenshot below → check “test archives”

Also, read the Help File within avast!. It will help you a lot.

Found it with yer help.

I plan on surfing here alot,
as I want to learn to use AVAST as effectively as I can.

So again, thanks for the Help
