So today avast offered me to upgrade to a new version so I did and for the past two hours I have been stuck wasting my time trying to get rid of this update and revert back to my old version, so I uninstall avast 2014 and try to install an older version from one year ago but when I try to install an older version I get this:
"You are trying to use an old version of the avast! setup.
Instead of using the packages stored in this file, the installer will download and use the latest setup from the internet."
What is this? I dont want the installer to “download and use the latest setup from the internet” WTH? I cant use Internet Explorer 8 with it.
Make a clean uninstall of avast using the official uninstaller provided by avast. Make sure you do this in safe mode (or give consent to the uninstaller to go in safe mode when promted.)
If possible, clear the temporary files, left out registry information using CCleaner or something like that. This helps remove any trace of avast from your system if not entirely (some information are too stubborn to leave the PC You’d be lucky if they do)
Restart and change your system time to a date that precedes avast’s installation package. (You’ll know when this package was downloaded or released to be specific)
Try to install now.
Revert your system’s time back and restart. Update the virus definition but NOT the program.
I hope it works
